Paintings by
Doug Harding, Yvette Murphy and others...
Doug Harding -
Upon retiring in 2002 Doug
thought he would
try his hand at drawing. He enrolled in a class taught by Julie
Sydenham (House of Jules Art Studio in Milton) and continued with
drawing for 12 months before venturing into painting. Doug continued
to attend Julie’s classes, this time in painting. He experimented
with a variety of media but now works mainly in oils. He has won
several prizes locally since he began exhibiting in 2004.

Yvette
Murphy - With over 30 years of painting experience in the
Shoalhaven area on the South Coast of NSW, Yvette has received
critical acclaim and widespread recognition for her beautiful
landscapes and contemporary work. A special connection with the
natural beauty of the area is evident in her art work which is
keenly sought after by both tourists visiting the area and local
residents aware of Yvette’s growing reputation. She has won numerous
awards over the year Born and educated in Sydney, Yvette was soon
drawn to the country, moving to Nowra and enrolling in a
two year art course at TAFE. She had always displayed a flair for
painting, even at a young age, but it was under the guidance of
local artist John Edwards, that her natural talent really started to
shine.
Initially she concentrated on abstract painting and acrylics but
with the natural beauty of the Shoalhaven district, it was only a
matter of time before she started landscape painting in oils. Her
tremendous enthusiasm for learning took her to Ted A’Court who
encouraged a sense of freedom in her work. She then studied under
David Kirkman, Lee Elvy and Mike Gilmore, as well as attending
workshops with Leslie Rippon, Helen Goldsmith, Toni Mason, John
Wilson, Robert Hagan, Kevin Best, Patrick Carroll
and Judith White. A prodigious artist she was soon in demand to
display her work in local exhibitions and galleries in the Mollymook
area where she presently resides.
Highlights:
· Her work has been selected for display at the Shoalhaven City
Council in Nowra.
· She was an artist selected for one of the first Olympic 2000
fundraising events hosted by Norman May at the Holiday Inn Menzies
in Sydney.
· Successful exhibitions with such noted artists as William O’Shea,
Wilmotte Williams, Kevin Best, Otto Kuster and John Lovett.
· A workshop with Patrick Carroll at Charles Sturt University
(acrylics on paper) has already born fruits with awards at the
Annual Shoalhaven Art Exhibition which attracts entries Australia
wide
– First Prize Members category, First Prize Contemporary category
and the People’s Choice Award.
· International representation in Canada, United States, Germany,
Ireland, New Zealand, UK and Holland as well as throughout
Australia.
Yvette is considered one of the top landscape artists on the South
Coast. Her style is mature and refined but with a real warmth and
sensitivity that only experience can bring. Her passion for art and
enthusiasm for learning continues to push her in new directions,
experimenting with semi abstract and contemporary styles which have
been very popular, although her traditional oil landscapes continue
to rise in popularity on local, national and international fronts.
